Lloyd Dennis, 67; Active in Nonprofit for Youth Leaders
Lloyd B. Dennis, a businessman who was active in the Coro Foundation, a nonprofit program to develop young leaders, died Tuesday at his home in Redondo Beach. Dennis, who was 67, had cancer.
Dennis was regional and then national board chairman of Coro. He also was active in the Los Angeles Educational Partnership, the Public Affairs Council and the California Business Roundtable.
Dennis, who was president and founder of a public affairs firm, had been director of public affairs at First Interstate Bank of California -- previously United California Bank -- from 1970 to 1985 and then worked in public affairs for the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
He began his career in journalism at the New York Times and the Baltimore Sun before becoming a speech writer and public information officer for three U.S. secretaries of the Treasury during the Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard M. Nixon administrations.
Born in 1936, he grew up in Chelsea, Mass., and received his bachelor’s degree from Boston University and his master’s from American University.
He is survived by his wife, Helen; two daughters, Lauren Perelmuter and Susan Dennis, both of Torrance; and a grandson.
Services will be held today at noon at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles.
