3Com’s Loss Widens for First Quarter

3Com Corp., the world’s fourth-largest maker of computer networking equipment, said its fiscal first-quarter loss widened to $106 million as revenue fell.

The loss was 29 cents a share, compared with a loss of $97.6 million, or 27 cents, a year earlier, the Marlborough, Mass.-based company said. Sales declined to $161.9 million from $269.2 million.

Sales of products aimed at big companies are likely to rise in the current quarter from the first quarter, Chief Executive Bruce Claflin said.

Shares of 3Com rose 15 cents to $6 on Nasdaq.
