So Much to Do, So Little NFL

Share

Once again with the start of a new NFL season, the L.A. Times’ coverage of the NFL has sent me into a new malaise. During the first week of coverage at least two writers mentioned the benefits of not having a team. Further, it has been reported that one of the more powerful players in L.A.’s quest for a franchise, Wellington Mara, owner of the New York Giants, is quoted as saying, “There is so much else to do in Los Angeles.”

This well-worn jingle is so idiotic. I mean, is there nothing else to do but watch the NFL in New York? San Francisco? Miami? Somebody better inform their Chambers of Commerce.

Based on the letters to Viewpoint, I feel I’m one of the few if not the only voice strongly advocating the return of the NFL to Los Angeles. However, I’ve been through enough divorces to know when I’m beaten. That’s why I’m retiring my efforts in this pursuit. Maybe I’ll get involved with another cause that has a better chance for success -- such as peace in the Middle East.
