Bruins May Be Running the Just Coast Offense

Three and out. Three and out. Three and out.

When Karl Dorrell said he was implementing the West Coast offense, little did we know it was going to be the same version Jim Tracy and the Dodgers use.

If I wanted to see a 6-3 game, I would have gone to Dodger Stadium. The line score could have read thus:

UCLA: 6 points, 20 runs, 30 hits, 16 errors, 11 pass completions.

Illinois: 3 points, 20 runs, 30 hits, 10 errors, 25 pass completions.

WP-Drew Olson; LP-Jon Beutjer; save-UCLA defense; no home runs.

I have had season tickets to UCLA football games since Tommy Prothro was coach. I suffered through the Pepper Rodgers years of many victories so boring they were almost as excruciating as losses.

Now, the UCLA coaches announce that if we die-hard UCLA football fans don’t like boring, tough luck. Boring offense and indifferent play calling are at the core of their philosophy and we better get used to it, says they. Unlike Rodgers, though, this group of “I felt like I was in the way” coaches has no handle on winning. If Karl Dorrell and Steve Axman keep up this offensive philosophy, the athletic department can find someone else to buy my three season tickets, which cost me $114 for the Illinois bore-athon alone.

Shades of Bob Toledo ... only worse!! This 12-year season-ticket holder prayed that UCLA-Illinois wouldn’t go into overtime, thus subjecting us to continuing the most inept display of offensive football in UCLA history.

Two words describe my feelings: “Totally depressed.”

It is irresponsible for Rose Bowl management to leave unprotected cement walls surrounding the field. During last Saturday’s Illinois-UCLA game, an Illinois receiver ran through the end zone while trying to catch a pass and hit the concrete wall, which, at that point, is immediately beyond the end zone line. What’s it going to take to do more to protect players from this sort of injury and rectify this outrage?
