Re Times reporter Mark Fineman’s death (obituary, Sept. 24): Mark Fineman was a “foul weather” friend of nearly 20 years -- he was the “newsie” I always met in the world’s most troubled places. We huddled in bars and dining rooms and disaster sites in the Philippines, India, Cyprus, Cuba and Miami. I was sending one of my relief agency’s staff members to look him up next week in Baghdad. We knew Mark would always get the story and take it far beyond whatever we could give him.
The loss of Mark will be felt by his many friends in the peculiar world in which we choose to make our lives ... somewhere beyond borders.
