Damages paid by mover’s insurance
Regarding “Another Moving Tale of Horror” (Letters, Sept. 21): One doesn’t have to buy the moving company’s insurance to collect for damage.
When I moved from Laguna Beach to Costa Mesa, I did not take the company’s insurance. They offered me about 30 cents a pound for damage, which included the refrigerator, a chair etc.
I wrote to the Public Utilities Commission requesting the name of the insurance company that the moving company used because I assumed they had to have insurance. PUC furnished the name but could do no more.
The moving company’s insurance company was most cooperative -- particularly because the moving company would not even furnish them a bill of lading. I did and had all my damage taken care of.
