Animal Farm Pollution

Share

Buried in “EPA Plans Farm Pollution Amnesty,” Sept. 25, about the Bush administration’s relentless effort to undermine any environmental regulation, is the arresting fact that just in California alone we have about 1.5 million dairy cows and “thousands of large animal feeding operations” that significantly contribute to ozone and smog.

Smog is not the only problem from factory farms. Most of the waste from these millions of animals goes into our streams and water tables untreated, and by some estimates this accounts for over half of all water pollution in our nation. Animal farms must be brought under the regulatory umbrella of the Environmental Protection Agency as soon as possible.
