Carter, 19, Looking for Her Second Victory
A week after getting her first career victory, jockey Maggie Carter will try for another with Brite Dancer in tonight’s sixth race, a $2,500 claimer for thoroughbred fillies and mares at 4 1/2 furlongs.
Carter, 19, won with her eighth mount, directing The Final Answer, an Arabian, to a 10-1 upset in the fourth race March 25. Carter, who has been galloping horses since she was 14, said she had been working The Final Answer since he was a baby.
“It’s cool that we both broke our maidens at the same time,” Carter said. “When we entered the winner’s circle there were a lot of people cheering for us. That was a great feeling.”
