Fiorina, Greenberg to Serve on NYSE Panel

From Bloomberg News

The New York Stock Exchange named Hewlett-Packard Co. Chief Executive Carly Fiorina and Marsh & McLennan Cos. CEO Jeffrey Greenberg to a panel that advises NYSE directors.

They join a committee of 19 others named in December 2003 after NYSE Chairman John S. Reed dissolved the former board of directors. The panel, called the board of executives, includes leaders of listed companies and securities firms. It reviews market structure and the exchange’s effectiveness and advises the exchange’s new board.

Hewlett-Packard, the second-largest personal computer maker, was one of five companies listed on the New York exchange that this year agreed to also list shares on the Nasdaq Stock Market. Adding Fiorina to the advisory board may help the NYSE prevent Nasdaq from becoming the exclusive U.S. market for Palo Alto-based Hewlett-Packard’s stock, said James Angel, a Georgetown University associate finance professor.

Fiorina’s appointment is unrelated to her company’s decision to dual-list, said Richard Adamonis, NYSE senior vice president for communications.

Greenberg is the son of Maurice “Hank” Greenberg, who is chief executive of American International Group Inc.
