From Times Wire Reports

A man and woman pleaded guilty to taking part in a smuggling scheme that resulted in the deaths of 19 illegal immigrants abandoned in a sweltering tractor-trailer.

Abelardo Flores, 34, and Fatima Holloway, 29, pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges. Each could each get up to life in prison and a fine of $250,000, though prosecutors agreed to recommend lesser sentences.

Prosecutors said Flores recruited the driver of the truck. Holloway was accused of lying at a border checkpoint in May by saying the trailer was empty. About 70 migrants were inside en route to Houston.
