Ford Issues Recall of 322,000 Escape SUVs

Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 322,000 of its compact Escape sport utility vehicles to fix what the automaker described as an intermittent engine stalling problem.

Vehicles affected by the recall are from the 2001, 2002 and early 2003 model years and are equipped with 3.0-liter V-6 engines, Ford said. The stalling problem tends to occur during deceleration at speeds below 40 mph.

Ford said it had received reports of eight minor accidents stemming from the problem.
