Lindows Inc., barred from using its name in three European countries after lawsuits by Microsoft Corp., renamed its Linux software and website to avoid further litigation by the world’s biggest software maker.

Lindows renamed the software Linspire, the San Diego-based company said.

The company’s website will be renamed www.linspire.com. Lindows will be kept as the corporate name and used in “certain instances” in the U.S., a Lindows spokeswoman said.
