Teresa Heinz Kerry’s Philanthropic Work

Share

Re “Kerry’s Wife Would Keep Her Philanthropic Role,” April 12: In my mind, Teresa Heinz Kerry’s involvement with nonprofits is of much less concern than the mega-millions that have been contributed to the Bush campaign by special-interest groups, many of which are actively against environmental protection of any kind and have succeeded in “persuading” the Bush administration to roll back environmental protections that were already in place.

I must say that I find this perplexing because we all, Republicans and Democrats alike, must breathe the same air and use the same water, and we are rapidly moving back to a Third World standard for both.

I would certainly hope that Heinz Kerry can keep any role she has had prior to her husband’s run for president. I don’t see any reason why she should be expected to change her manner of living if her husband is president. It would appear that conservative groups will be grasping at straws to undermine Sen. John Kerry in his bid.

Remember First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt? She did things her way and is well known for her efforts to make this world a better place for all. Why is it that a woman who is intelligent and has a life of her own brings fear into the lives of some people?

I have a feeling that Heinz Kerry may set a precedent. And I certainly do not see anything wrong with that.
