Lima Makes Most of Time on Mound

It was “Lima Time” once again.

Pitcher Jose Lima worked five solid innings Saturday in a 5-4 victory over San Francisco, winning in his first start as a Dodger.

“This is like a dream come true for me. This game is very special for me,” said Lima, a nonroster player in spring training. “Coming to spring training as a minor league [invitee], and look where I’m at now.

“I got a start against one of the best teams in the National League. And with the tradition of the Dodgers and Giants, look what happened.

“It’s a huge win, and now they’ve got the pressure. We can probably get the broom tomorrow and go home with three wins.”

A 21-game winner and National League All-Star with Houston in 1999, Lima revived his career with Kansas City last season, going 8-3 with a 4.91 earned-run average in 14 starts. The right-hander has been a positive force on the field and in the clubhouse.

On Saturday, Lima gave up six hits and two earned runs. Barry Bonds, nine for 18 with four home runs against him coming in, was walked twice (once intentionally) by Lima and popped out for the final out in the fifth with a runner on first.

“I wasn’t going to pitch to Bonds, no matter what,” Lima said. “If I had to walk him eight times, I would have walked him eight times.”

First baseman Shawn Green returned to the lineup after sitting out Friday’s 3-2 victory because of a strained right groin muscle. He was hitless in five at-bats.... Second baseman Alex Cora left in the fifth inning because of a strained right triceps. He is listed as day to day.... In the first five games of the trip, Milton Bradley is six for 21 with nine runs batted in and five runs.... With his solo homer in the eighth inning, Bonds moved into sole possession of seventh place on the all-time list for runs with 1,950.
