Middle-Class Family Must Go It Alone

Share

After reading Winnie Hodges’ “Wanting a Little State Assistance Isn’t So Wrong” (Voices, April 17), about wanting help with family finances and wanting her turn, I thought, what planet is she from? How can she even begin to put herself on the same plane as the men and women who really need the help? She and her husband have good, stable jobs; many people have lost their jobs and can’t find work. She has a loving family -- great; many are single-parent families trying their best. She’s paying her child-care worker $440 a week; that’s more than many make in a week.

Then she states it might sound like whining. Lady, you are whining.

Mrs. Hodges, you need to get your priorities straight. You have a loving family and children who are healthy and well cared for. This is your turn. You are blessed, and the sad thing is you don’t even acknowledge it.
