From Times Wire Reports

Couples would have to undergo 12 hours of premarital counseling or face longer waits for a marriage license under a bill approved by the Iowa Senate in Des Moines and sent to the governor.

The bill, which passed 33-14, would set a waiting period of three days with counseling and 20 days without it. The bill’s supporters say it’s a way to help strengthen marriages and slow the divorce rate.
