Lohan’s image

In “The Girls of Summer” (April 18), The Times published two pictures of Lindsay Lohan, age 17. In both, she is posed as a sex kitten. She is underage. What exactly was the photographer thinking? Where were her parents? Is this the image she wants as she outgrows teen roles? Does she want to be like one of those bubble-brained TV newsreaders profiled earlier in the week?

In light of today’s derivative, over-glossed, comic book world of the movies, it’s not only refreshing to read about a legitimate rising star, it’s terrific to meet one. Lindsay Lohan’s the real deal. Her charismatic talent notwithstanding, as well as the inevitable corporate packaging which wants a piece of her charm, it still comes down to the heart and soul behind the veneer.

A while back, I had the pleasure of accompanying Lindsay and her family to a children’s benefit at a swank Connecticut riding club when, from out of nowhere, a gaggle of giggling “prim and proper” girls followed Lindsay into a ladies room to seek her autograph. She was 12, and the grace, smiles and level of maturity with which she handled that situation (and others likely even more goofy) made me a believer.
