The Defense Department last week identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

David S. Greene, 39, of Raleigh, N.C.; lieutenant colonel, Marine Corps Reserve. Greene was killed Wednesday in enemy action in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 775, Marine Aircraft Group 16, 3rd Marine Air Wing, Marine Corps Air Station in Miramar, Calif.

Joseph F. Herndon II, 21, of Derby, Kan.; specialist, Army. Herndon was killed Thursday when he was shot while on guard duty in Hawija. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 27th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division (Light) at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

Shawn A. Lane, 33, of Corning, N.Y.; gunnery sergeant, Marine Corps. Lane was killed Wednesday in enemy action in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the Headquarters Battalion, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Pendleton.

Ken W. Leisten, 20, of Cornelius, Ore.; private first class, Army National Guard. Leisten was killed Wednesday when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Taji. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 162nd Infantry, Army National Guard in Corvallis, Ore.

Tatjana Reed, 34, of Fort Campbell, Ky.; sergeant, Army. Reed was killed July 22 when an improvised explosive device detonated near her convoy vehicle in Samarra. She was assigned to the 66th Transportation Company in Kaiserslautern, Germany.

Vincent M. Sullivan, 23, of Chatham, N.J.; lance corporal, Marine Corps. Sullivan was killed July 23 in enemy action in Al Anbar province. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

DeForest L. Talbert, 24, of Charleston, W.Va.; sergeant, Army National Guard. Talbert was killed Tuesday when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle in Baladruc. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 150th Armor Regiment, Army National Guard in Beckley, W.Va.

Nicholas J. Zangara, 21, of Philadelphia; specialist, Army. Zangara was killed July 24 when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy vehicle in Tikrit. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 7th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division in Schweinfurt, Germany.
