Buccaneer Beach, who was claimed for $8,000 a little more than a year ago, will try for his second Grade I victory of 2004 in tonight’s $141,400 Vessels Maturity at 400 yards.

Trained by Chuck Treece, the 4-year-old was the fastest qualifier for the Vessels. In his trial July 16, Buccaneer Beach won by 2 3/4 lengths while completing the 400 yards in 19.38 seconds.

No worse than third in nine starts since being claimed by his current connections, the California bred has five victories during that span. His Grade I victory came in the Los Alamitos Winter Championship on Feb. 28.
