Ramirez Cartoon Is No Laughing Matter

We never thought we’d see the talented Michael Ramirez take such a cheap shot. The cartoon in Sunday’s Opinion (Commentary, Aug. 8) fantasizes that Sen. John Kerry would have referenced Michael Moore and the French at the start of 9/11. That is neither pithy nor funny, just partisan.

To find that amusing, we’d have to believe that a president could sit, frozen with terror, for seven long minutes while his citizens died at the dawn of a new war. Oh, wait; President Bush did.

Finally, a true characterization of Kerry by Ramirez: “Had I been reading to children and had my top aide whispered in my ear, ‘America is under attack,’ I would have acted differently.” -- “First, ask Michael Moore what to say. Second, ask France what to do.”

Kerry is so taken up with becoming the most powerful man in the world that he will say and do anything, even take a propagandist’s lead and ask for a permission slip from other countries to protect America.

Re Ramirez’s cartoon, Commentary, Aug. 7: I find it interesting that Republicans hammer away at celebrities for using their status in support of Democratic candidates, but somehow become mute when those who are Republicans use their status to run for office.

I suggest three more books for his shelf: George Murphy, Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Oh, and they almost had Mike Ditka.
