World War II’s Mexican Pilots Got a Patriotic Reception
The article “The Saga of the Aztec Eagles” (by Dana Calvo, July 25) brought back pleasant memories of my few months in Mexico City in 1945. After serving in World War II, I planned to attend USC’s School of International Relations. I decided to go to Mexico City, and there I marveled at the effusive display of patriotism for the Mexican fighter pilots of Escuadron 201. They were the talk of the capital, and special bullfights were organized with the best matadors in the world.
