The family of a 20-year-old UCLA student who disappeared while commuting from Orange County to school said Monday they were doubling to $20,000 a reward for information leading to the student’s safe return.

Three weeks after the disappearance of Ahmad Arain, the family has hired a private investigator and posted calls for help on the Internet. On Monday, brother Sulayman Arain said the family has discovered few clues beyond a surveillance tape showing the student stepping off a bus.

“We thought it would be a good idea to increase the reward, because there were no new developments,” Arain said.

Ahmed Arain was traveling from his family’s home in Orange to meet with an academic advisor at UCLA on July 23, when he failed to show up for his appointment. Anyone with information is asked to call UCLA police at (310) 825-1491 or go to www.find Ahmad.net.
