Redman Stays Solid for A’s

Mark Redman (9-9) pitched eight innings of six-hit ball and the Oakland Athletics used a three-run fifth inning to beat the host Baltimore Orioles, 3-1, on Monday.

It was only the second win in six games for the first-place A’s, who maintained their slim lead over Texas and the Angels in the American League West.

“When we need a big game, he comes up with it,” Manager Ken Macha said. “We needed a lift and he gave it to us.”

Miguel Tejada faced his former team for the first time since signing with Baltimore as a free agent last winter, and was 0 for 3 with a walk.

Texas 5, Cleveland 2 -- Brian Jordan hit a tiebreaking homer in the sixth inning at Arlington, Texas, and the Rangers extended their winning streak to four games.

Boston 8, Toronto 4 -- Kevin Millar and Orlando Cabrera each drove in two runs, and former Gold Glove first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz made his first career start at second base to help lift the Red Sox at home.
