Re “Lawsuit Filed Over Immigrant Medical Costs,” Aug. 17: It is time for all of us to admit that we can no longer afford to pay for uninsured immigrants’ healthcare (illegal or otherwise). Hospitals are closing, and nearly all of them operate in red ink. I audit medical charts, and I can tell you that many immigrants’ sponsors have plenty of financial resources.

Sharon Reichman, the county’s lead attorney in the case, desperately needs a class in Economics 101. She states “the closure of healthcare clinics have nothing to do with lack of reimbursement efforts. It’s due to structural problems.” And we are paying for her salary.
