Singer’s Defeat Another Blow to Palestinians
Palestinians hoping for a morale boost after four years of conflict with Israel were disappointed when their contestant lost to a Libyan in a contest for the Arab world’s best singer.
Ammar Hassan, 27, from the West Bank village of Salfit, became the darling of the Palestinians as he made his way through the 13-week “Superstar 2” competition on a Lebanese channel.
About 5,000 people crowded into a park in Salfit to watch the broadcast. They stood stunned when Libyan Eyman Atar outpolled Hassan by a wide margin.
