The City Council has repealed a parade ordinance that restricted free speech after opponents said the law was unconstitutional.

The ordinance was put in place last year before an international agriculture conference at which 20,000 protesters were expected.

The ordinance, which outlawed bandannas, signs with thick wooden handles and glass containers, was criticized for restricting freedom.

After several meetings, the council decided Tuesday night that the statute was too broad.
