Sex Offenders List Goes Online
The names and photographs of serious sexual offenders residing in Ventura County are available to anyone with an Internet connection, Sheriff Bob Brooks announced Tuesday.
Previously, information on registered sex offenders was available only at select computer terminals at sheriff’s and police stations.
Because of a change in state law, parents and others can now find the same information online, Brooks said. Adults can access data on high-risk offenders, including photos, names, the block they live in and general offenses.
For now, only five men are listed on the site, www.vcsd.org. They are serious offenders who are considered threats to the community.
Information on 785 lower-risk registrants living in Ventura County will be posted by the U.S. Department of Justice next year, Brooks said. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department website will include a link to that site, he said.
