Oxnard Driver Dies After His Car Hits Tree

A 28-year-old Oxnard man was killed and his 27-year-old passenger injured Wednesday night when their car hit a tree and overturned, trapping them inside, authorities said.

George De Jesus was driving a Lexus ES300 in the 900 block of Richmond Avenue in Oxnard shortly before 9 p.m. when the crash occurred, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Arturo Baraza, also of Oxnard, was removed from the vehicle by emergency personnel and taken to St. John’s Regional Medical Center, authorities said. He was listed in stable condition.

Witnesses said the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed on wet pavement when it veered out of control, authorities said. The accident was under investigation.
