David Brudnoy, 64; Talk Radio Host Was Heard in 38 States

David Brudnoy, 64, a popular talk radio personality in the Northeast for more than 25 years, died Thursday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He had been battling cancer and died of renal failure.

He told his audience last year that he was suffering from merkel cell carcinoma, a rare skin cancer.

In an on-air interview from his hospital bed Wednesday, he told listeners he knew his death was imminent because the cancer had spread to his kidneys and liver.

In 1994, he revealed that he was gay and living with AIDS after he collapsed and nearly died of a viral infection.

Born in Minneapolis, Brudnoy graduated from Yale University and earned a master’s degree at Harvard and a second master’s at Brandeis.

He started his radio career at WHDH-AM (850) in 1976, then moved to WRKO-AM (680) in 1981. Since 1986, Brudnoy, a libertarian, could be heard every weeknight in 38 states and Canada on WBZ-AM (1030).
