Katdogawn Looks to Repeat

Share

Not since the 2003 Dahlia Handicap has Katdogawn crossed the wire first in a race. The 4-year-old English-bred filly has one win this year, but it came in March via the disqualification of Megahertz in the Santa Ana Handicap.

Katdogawn, who is owned by a partnership and is trained by Jim Cassidy, perhaps can end her dry spell by repeating in the $150,000 Dahlia, the closing day feature for Hollywood Park’s autumn meet.

The Grade II was scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the turf, but it will be run on dirt instead.

A non-factor in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf on Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park in her most recent start, Katdogawn always has run well in Inglewood. In seven local appearances, she has three wins and three seconds.

Belleski is the deserving favorite in the Dahlia. A 5-year-old Polish Numbers mare trained by John Sadler for owners Jerry and Ann Moss, she has won three in a row and eight of 15 in her career.

Race of the day: Unforgettabull, who has won five of her last six starts, will travel to Southern California to try and keep her hot streak going when she is scheduled to take on 10 other fillies and mares in today’s fifth at Hollywood Park. Casey Fusilier will ride the 6-year-old In Excess mare in the $32,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on the grass.

One for the road: Judy’s Bet makes her first start for trainer Bill Morey and adds Lasix for her comeback in today’s eighth at Golden Gate Fields. The 3-year-old Dance Floor filly should improve immensely with the stable change and doesn’t have much to beat in the $8,000 maiden claimer at six furlongs. Dennis Carr will ride.

Exotically speaking: An early pick four using Latin Devil and Sonriente in the first, Hot Attraction in the second, Our Free Bee and Skipping Court in the third and Firing Note, Magic Mark and Iamatowertoo in the fourth.

Winners: Previous day/meet total: 6/98. Money: Previous day/meet total: $29.60/$552.20. Total money bet: $580.
