It’s live and in color
It was love at first sight. Many current residents of the Southland got their first view of Southern California on a cold, drab and/or snowy New Year’s Day long ago and far away. Color television beamed the Rose Parade across the nation and revealed Pasadena as a magical place with sunny skies, bright flowers and people in shirt sleeves -- all in the middle of winter! If TV just won’t do this year, spectators can try to stake out a free, curbside viewing spot available on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at noon Friday, or grandstand seats were still available (as of Wednesday) for $45 to $55. The theme of Saturday’s 116th Rose Parade is “Celebrate Family,” and the grand marshal is Mickey Mouse.
