Regarding the upcoming independent, bipartisan study of “what we can do better as we fight this war against terror” that President Bush will commission (Feb. 3): The president and the people can save a whole lot of time if he first asks about the Office of Special Plans at the Pentagon. Here, Deputy Defense Secretary Paul Wolfowitz and Undersecretary Douglas Feith, rather than intelligence professionals, put together their version of “intelligence” and then, without vetting by professional intelligence agencies, had their product shot straight into the National Security Council.

Nothing speaks so eloquently about the priorities of the Bush administration than the last few days. While G.W. drags his heels about an inquiry into the intelligence he says justified our going to war and losing hundreds of American soldiers, an outraged Federal Communications Commission immediately vows to get to the bottom of why a breast was shown on live TV (Feb. 3).
November can’t get here fast enough.
