MTV shelves ‘making of’ halftime show

Weeks before the world saw what would become the most analyzed Super Bowl halftime show in history, MTV announced it would air “The Making of the AOL Superbowl Half-Time Show” today at 1 p.m. The announcement promised behind-the-scenes footage of the musical stars, comedians and athletes “as they put on an MTV concert like no other for the big game.”
Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake certainly delivered on that promise on game day, but by week’s end -- and with no fanfare -- MTV quietly canceled the special.
Spokesman Graham James said MTV would not elaborate on the decision. The network’s parent company, Viacom, is among the major broadcasters summoned to Washington to testify Wednesday at two congressional hearings on indecency and broadcast standards.
