Senate OKs Tax Hike to Bolster School System

The Arkansas Senate approved a major tax increase designed to bring the state’s public schools up to standard.
Senators voted 23 to 12 for the increase, which is expected to generate $377 million annually. The House has passed the same package. Gov. Mike Huckabee has said he would let the tax reforms become law without his signature.
