From Times Wire Reports

Ireland will introduce a tobacco ban March 29, making it the first country in Europe to outlaw smoking in pubs, restaurants and other enclosed spaces, the government said.

Those who defy the ban could be fined up to $3,800, Health Minister Micheal Martin told a news conference.

Several locations will be exempt, including prisons, psychiatric hospitals, hotel bedrooms and nursing homes. Critics say the ban will destroy Ireland’s renowned pub culture and will not be enforceable.
