Walt Disney Co.’s ESPN didn’t violate a contract with an Indian distributor of the sports cable channel and doesn’t owe $231 million in damages, a New York jury decided.
Delhi, India-based Modi Enterprises sued ESPN in 2001, claiming the Disney unit had reneged on a promise to renew a contract to distribute ESPN throughout India.
Modi also claimed that ESPN established its own distribution network in India, using trade secrets developed by the Indian company.
A state court jury in Manhattan rejected Modi’s claims and awarded no damages.
