The tobacco farmer who drove his tractor into a pond on the National Mall and caused hours of commuter gridlock apologized in court.

“I do understand that what I did was wrong, and I want to apologize,” Dwight Ware Watson, 51, of Whitakers, N.C., said in U.S. District Court.

Watson is to be sentenced March 3. Federal guidelines suggest that he serve 2 to 20 years in prison.
