Jewish Group Raises $5 Million in 12 Hours
More than 2,000 volunteers manned phone banks in three locations Sunday to raise $5 million for the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles, a nonsectarian social services group.
The 25th annual “Super Sunday” lasted from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and drew notable volunteers such as Mayor James K. Hahn and Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, said Jill Namm, a co-chair of the West Hills call center.
The group was expected to call 50,000 prospective donors to raise funds for programs such as healthcare for the elderly, day care for toddlers and help for battered women, among others.
