Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) said she wanted the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether a rise in the state’s gasoline prices was due to possible market manipulation by big oil companies.

California’s pump price has jumped 16 cents in the last week to an average $2.03 a gallon for self-serve regular, much higher than the national average, according to the Energy Department.
