Sempra Received Subpoena on Fuel Price
Sempra Energy, owner of the largest U.S. natural-gas distributor, received a subpoena in January from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission on the price of the fuel.
The inquiry is part of a broader investigation into a surge in gas prices last year, the San Diego-based utility owner said in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.
The CFTC announced in January that it was reviewing late November and early December gas trades. Gas futures on the New York Mercantile Exchange rose 48% from Nov. 18 to Dec. 12.
Sempra rose 19 cents to $31.57 on the NYSE.
