Stewart Twins Are Late; Rodrick Doesn’t Start

The Stewart twins, Lodrick and Rodrick, were late arrivals to the Trojans’ eventual 91-82 win over Oregon State, and Rodrick paid for it by not starting at point guard.

“Lodrick had nothing to lose, he’s on the bench anyway,” Bibby said with a grin. “They accepted that, and it’s a process of growing up.”

As part of that learning process, Bibby still has a gag order on the loquacious identical-twin freshmen from Seattle, who will be making their anticipated homecoming at Washington on Thursday.

Against the Beavers, Lodrick blocked three shots and tied his career high with 19 points in 25 minutes, and has scored in double figures in five consecutive games.

Rodrick had 10 points, three assists, two turnovers and a steal, also in 25 minutes.

With Friday’s blowout loss to Oregon still on their minds, guard Desmon Farmer called a players-only meeting on Saturday to sift through the wreckage.

“When we were down 13-0 [against Oregon State], I guess it kicked in,” Farmer said.

“I’m a senior; I’m not trying to go out with a losing season. I just told them that we were on pace to finish worse than last year.

“We had to pick it up.”

With 14 points against the Beavers, Farmer (1,257 points) passed Purvis Miller (1,247) and Stais Boseman (1,248) for 13th place on USC’s career scoring list. Up next: David Bluthenthal (1,313).
