Still influential years later

The Charles Lloyd Quartet, which also included pianist Keith Jarrett and drummer Jack DeJohnette, was one of the most popular jazz ensembles in the world, when Down Beat magazine declared Lloyd jazz artist of the year in 1967. But Lloyd took a hiatus from major touring in the 1970s. In the 1980s he reemerged and has since consistently been one of jazz’s most creative and influential voices in the post-John Coltrane era.
