San Clemente Spill Closes Beach

A sewage spill in San Clemente on Sunday forced the closure of a stretch of beach north of the pier to swimmers, surfers and divers.
The spill, which came from a manhole at El Portal and Buena Vista, was reported about 10:15 a.m., authorities said. The cause was being investigated.
About 950 gallons of raw sewage released near a stairway that leads to the beach made its way into the water, authorities said.
The beach was closed for 1,000 feet on either side of the El Portal access to the beach.
