From Times Staff and Wire Reports

State inspectors dropping by Fresno County nursing homes for surprise visits from 2001 to 2003 found all but one understaffed, a report by the attorney general’s office showed.

But Hallye Jordan, a spokeswoman for the attorney general’s office, said Tuesday that most of the deficiencies found in the nursing homes have been or were being corrected, which is the program’s goal.

Nursing home administrators added that the report had used old information that was not reflective of today’s homes.

Atty. Gen. Bill Lockyer said the Fresno County inspections were part of 150 visits in 19 counties statewide that showed that 68% of the homes had too few certified nursing assistants.
