Devils’ Brodeur Gets 10th Shutout

Martin Brodeur made 21 saves to match his career high with 10 shutouts in the New Jersey Devils’ 2-0 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Friday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

Brodeur is five shy of the NHL modern-era record of 15 shutouts set by Chicago’s Tony Esposito in 1969-70. He is 25-10-4 with six shutouts against his hometown team.

Patrik Elias scored a short-handed goal and set up a power-play goal by Grant Marshall.

Florida 4, Washington 1 -- Donald Audette scored two power-play goals at Sunrise, Fla., to reach 500 career points, and the Panthers won for only the second time in their last six games. Audette has 256 goals and 244 assists in his 15-year career with Buffalo, the Kings, Atlanta, Dallas, Montreal and Florida.

New York Islanders 3, Carolina 2 -- Trent Hunter, Michael Peca and Justin Papineau scored goals and Rick Dipietro made 25 saves to lead the Islanders to their first road victory in January. Their previous road win was a 6-1 victory in Pittsburgh on Dec. 31.

Dallas 2, St. Louis 0 -- Marty Turco stopped 33 shots for his 16th career shutout to help the Stars beat the Blues at Dallas. Aaron Downey scored his first goal of the season, and Phillippe Boucher had a power-play goal.
