The Defense Department last week also identified the following American military personnel killed in Iraq:

Roland L. Castro, 26, of San Antonio; staff sergeant, Army. Castro died Jan. 16 in Camp Cedar II, Iraq, of a nonhostile gunshot wound. He was assigned to Battery A, 1st Battalion, 12th Field Artillery at Ft. Sill, Okla.

Kelly L. Hornbeck, 36, of Fort Worth; master sergeant, Army. Hornbeck died Jan. 18 at the 28th Combat Support Hospital in Iraq of injuries suffered Jan. 16 when an improvised explosive device struck his vehicle south of Samarra, Iraq. He was assigned to Company C, 3rd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group at Ft. Carson, Colo.

Cody J. Orr, 21, of Ruskin, Fla.; private first class, Army. Orr was among three soldiers killed Jan. 17 when their Bradley fighting vehicle struck an improvised explosive device and overturned north of Taji, Iraq. The soldiers had been conducting a surveillance sweep for such devices north of Baghdad when the attack occurred. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

Gabriel T. Palacios, 22, of Lynn, Mass.; specialist, Army. Palacios was killed Wednesday in a mortar attack on a forward operating base near Ba’qubah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 588th Engineer Battalion (Heavy), 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.

James D. Parker, 20, of Bryan, Texas; private first class, Army. Parker was killed Wednesday in a mortar attack on a forward operating base near Ba’qubah, Iraq. He was assigned to the 588th Engineer Battalion (Heavy), 4th Infantry Division at Ft. Hood, Texas.
