UAL Corp.’s United Airlines, which was denied a U.S. loan guarantee to help exit bankruptcy, said it raised fares 5% on most international flights from the U.S. because of higher fuel costs.

AMR Corp.’s American Airlines and Continental Airlines Inc. matched United’s higher ticket prices on some routes.

Jet-fuel spot prices for delivery in New York harbor have risen 19% this year. They increased 5.7 cents to $1.102 a gallon Wednesday as the Energy Department said U.S. oil inventories fell.
