18 Killed, Homes Ruined in Magnitude 5 Quake

An earthquake in a remote, mountainous part of eastern Turkey collapsed dozens of stone and mud houses, killing 18 people and injuring 27.

The temblor destroyed 67 homes in the village of Yigincal, near the Iranian border, the Anatolian news agency reported.

The quake measured a magnitude of 5, the Istanbul-based Kandilli observatory said.
