A Fairer Slice of the Pie

Re “It’s a Win-Win Situation, Even if Some Win More Than Others,” Sunday Opinion, June 27: Richard Epstein creates a classic false choice by implying that equality and progress are opposing goals. But there is no reason that we can’t expand the pie while simultaneously ensuring that it’s sliced more fairly. In fact, the greater the resources, the easier it should be to share them.

“Why worry about the persistence of inequality,” Epstein asks, as long as things are improving for everyone? Because we can, we should and we must.
