Federal Judge Upholds Ban on Electronic Voting
A federal judge has rejected efforts by four California counties to lift Secretary of State Kevin Shelley’s ban on electronic voting -- a decision that could force some to issue paper ballots in the November election.
Confirming a tentative decision made last week, U.S. District Judge Florence-Marie Cooper said Tuesday that Shelley acted reasonably when he blocked 14 counties from using digital voting systems in November because of concerns about the machines’ reliability.
An attorney for the four counties that sued -- Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern and Plumas -- said he expects to appeal the decision.
